I Give Up
I have set up a practice blog, in which to play around and learn all sorts of wonderful bloggy things. What I really want to do is learn how to make my own blog skins. I have come across some lovely skins that I've tried to use. The ones I like the best simply do not work. Go figure. So I figured that it might be fun to just make my own. That way, I get what I want in it, and I have an enjoyable time creating skins to fiddle with.
I thought the practical solution would be to find some tutorials for making blog skins, so off I went to search for them. I did find several, but I have to admit they weren't very helpful. Although one of them at least gave me a bit of information that helped me make sense of the current template I'm using, so I was finally able to figure out how the heck to get a section in there to link to other blogs. I am proud to note that I now have a links section on the sidebar! Okay, so it's not heavily populated yet, but trying to sort through the tutorials I found was giving me a headache, so I am quite happy with the links I have up!
I am going to continue in my search for tutorials, but I have to say that it's a good thing I have some knowledge of HTML, or I would never have made sense of fitting the links section in this template! I can see that this venture is not going to be quite as easy as I first thought it would be! Don't get me wrong - I wasn't expecting it to be a cakewalk. But I've designed several web pages and I figured a blog skin wouldn't be that much more complicated. I am quickly realizing that I was in error with that line of thinking!
Still, I think I will eventually enjoy this - especially when I find a tutorial that is reasonably coherent! In the meantime, I'll fiddle around with things on my practice blog, to learn more about how the current template is put together, and that should be helpful when it comes to starting from scratch.
Let's see, what other news is there to report? Not a lot, really. I accomplished a fair bit at work - got some stuff off my plate that I'd been wanting to get done, so that's always a good thing. Of course I also ended up getting a few things come in that I could have done without, but hey, that's to be expected!
After work, I just came home and fiddled on the computer, and tried to keep warm. Yes, it's still the major deep freeze out there. And now I am about to head off to bed! So I shall wish you all a good night, and pleasant dreams!

Yay! I'm blog linked!! :)
Did you just have to add another subtitle with the p class=subtitle ... thingy? That's how I added my extras in. I can't wait to see what you eventually come up with for a blog skin!! :)
Have a good day at work Pammie, and I'll see ya later!
Jude LinkyLoved ya so i'm here via her site.
I love playing around with html, but have NO clue how to build a skin from the ground up. What I usually do is go find a skin that I like the general layout of and fiddle with the colors, etc.
Anywho, just wanted to pop in and say hello!
No, Judy, I ended up just copying an existing block and then changing what I needed to in it. This template is a bit different than some others I've seen - hell, a good chunk of the templates I've been looking at so far all have different coding from each other! But I haven't really studied them that much yet, so I'll just have to play around with some of the different ones and figure out what the heck the differences in each one are. I hope you're having a good day at work too! See ya later!
Nice to see you, Tracey! Thanks for stopping by! I've been playing with a couple of skins, but the problem is that the ones I like have stipulations that they cannot be modified, so... Besides, I'm stubborn when it comes to this stuff - I refuse to let machines or HTML beat me! LMAO!
Came over from Jude's blog since she linky loved ya. I feel like I know you already by reading Jude's blog. Ask your sis about the HTML codes. She helped me a lot.
Thanks for stopping by, Melanie! Yeah, I might have to bug Judy for some tips and tricks, although I'm okay with the HTML - it's just the way everyone seems to code their blog skins differently that gets me. So that's where I need to play around.
