Nostalgia

I've been home sick the last couple of days, and this morning I found myself feeling rather bored, but with not enough energy to do much of anything. So I hauled out the camera and looked around to see what I could take pictures of. My eyes lit on a toothpick house that my Dad built many years ago. It's in remarkable shape, especially considering the amount of moves it's been through. The only thing missing is the front porch, which apparently fell off many years back. I don't recall ever seeing it with the porch, so it either fell off before I was born, or when I was very young.

The house is a replica of the one his parents owned, and I'm told it's quite a faithful reproduction of the real one. The real house is long gone, and last I heard the property it sat on is vacant. Rather sad, but it makes the toothpick version even more precious.

I also have a small outhouse that someone made for my Dad when he was in the Air Force. I've always gotten a giggle out of that outhouse, and decided it was worthy of photographing too.

So here are some things from the good old days - I thought I'd share them with you!

Front and Side

Front and Other Side

Back View

I can just picture this house sitting on a grassy lot, with a garden patch or two off to one side, a dirt driveway winding up to the front door...

I also got some interior shots, although it was a bit hard to get many to turn out through those teeny windows. Still, a few were okay, and I must admit they have a bit of a spooky feeling to me - very much the abandoned house feel.

Front Entrance

Upstairs

Downstairs

I really like the upstairs interior picture. It actually looks like floor and wallboards to me. The floor reminds me of the old plank flooring, which I would love to have in my house. It's interesting, but when I look at those interior pictures, especially the upstairs one, I can almost hear footsteps echoing across the floorboards...

Now for the outhouse - this little piece of carpentry has always made me grin!

Outhouse

Two-Seater!

I also took some pictures of some candles I made several years ago. They're a bit dried out, and the colours have bled a bit, but I still like them. I think they'll be scheduled to be burned this autumn or winter though.

Candles in Music Note Holder

Ankh Candles

I've made several of these candles - some plain tapers, some pillars with pictures and designs. All except for the ones pictured were given as gifts, so I didn't have any photographs of them. I enjoy making them, and I love burning the tapers. I think it's time to make some more - maybe this time I'll make a bunch for myself!

That's it for tonight. Nothing earth-shattering, but I thought some of you might get a kick out of the pictures. They had me waxing nostalgic, so I figured I might as well take you all down that road with me! Take care everyone, and sleep well!

Very nice, and yes, nostalgic! That house is where dad grew up, and where I slept many a time as a youngster whenever we were visiting Grandma and Grandpa's.

Ahh.... I miss them all so much.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks you two! I went in to work this morning, but decided to pack it in just after lunch. I'm a bit better, but still not back to usual. Apparently there's a flu going around, so it seems I caught it. Ah well, it will take a hike soon enough.

I knew you'd both remember that house well. It's odd, because I seem to have a few vague memories of being there, but I don't know if I ever really was. What I mainly remember is walking along by a field (with Grandpa), and brushing my teeth. Odd as that may be... LOL!

Anyhow, I figured you both would enjoy these pictures! I love you too Linda! Yes, and you too Judy!

Well for sure you were never there.... they moved to Vancouver before you were born. I'll bet any money you had a dream (or a visitation) from Grandpa. :-)

Hope you're feeling much better by tomorrow! *muah*
