Autumn's Coming!

Autumn's coming! Autumn's coming! See? The leaves are turning!

Autumn Leaf

They've been turning for a little over a week, but I just spotted that little guy on the ground out back, so figured I'd snap a picture to preserve him for posterity!

I am so happy that autumn's on the way. It's my favourite time of year to start with, and it's already much cooler out in the evenings, which is helpful when it's hotter than blazes during the day. So I'm feeling better, and have a bit more energy.

I'm also doing a ton of housecleaning right now - finally getting this place straightened up! I've been cleaning like crazy, but have been very baffled as to where I was getting the energy from. Then the other night I remembered that I had done a spell awhile back to give myself the energy to get some work done in the house. I'd forgotten all about it. I'm pleased to see that it's kicking in, though!

In light of this housework roll that I'm on, this is going to be a short entry. I just had some other pictures I've wanted to post, but Blogger has not been cooperative with that in the last week. Every time I've tried to post them, it hasn't worked. I thought I'd give it a shot again this morning, and was very happy when the pictures uploaded!

These first ones are of a gorgeous sunset that I caught the tail end of a week or so ago:

These are another sunset, a few days later. A storm was rolling in, and created this wonderful picture in the sky.

These were taken just the other night. I wandered out with the dogs, spotted this beautiful sky, and had to run back in for the camera!

That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed the pictures, and now I'm off to do some more cleaning. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Nostalgia

I've been home sick the last couple of days, and this morning I found myself feeling rather bored, but with not enough energy to do much of anything. So I hauled out the camera and looked around to see what I could take pictures of. My eyes lit on a toothpick house that my Dad built many years ago. It's in remarkable shape, especially considering the amount of moves it's been through. The only thing missing is the front porch, which apparently fell off many years back. I don't recall ever seeing it with the porch, so it either fell off before I was born, or when I was very young.

The house is a replica of the one his parents owned, and I'm told it's quite a faithful reproduction of the real one. The real house is long gone, and last I heard the property it sat on is vacant. Rather sad, but it makes the toothpick version even more precious.

I also have a small outhouse that someone made for my Dad when he was in the Air Force. I've always gotten a giggle out of that outhouse, and decided it was worthy of photographing too.

So here are some things from the good old days - I thought I'd share them with you!

Back View

I can just picture this house sitting on a grassy lot, with a garden patch or two off to one side, a dirt driveway winding up to the front door...

I also got some interior shots, although it was a bit hard to get many to turn out through those teeny windows. Still, a few were okay, and I must admit they have a bit of a spooky feeling to me - very much the abandoned house feel.

Upstairs

Downstairs

I really like the upstairs interior picture. It actually looks like floor and wallboards to me. The floor reminds me of the old plank flooring, which I would love to have in my house. It's interesting, but when I look at those interior pictures, especially the upstairs one, I can almost hear footsteps echoing across the floorboards...

Now for the outhouse - this little piece of carpentry has always made me grin!

Two-Seater!

I also took some pictures of some candles I made several years ago. They're a bit dried out, and the colours have bled a bit, but I still like them. I think they'll be scheduled to be burned this autumn or winter though.

Ankh Candles

I've made several of these candles - some plain tapers, some pillars with pictures and designs. All except for the ones pictured were given as gifts, so I didn't have any photographs of them. I enjoy making them, and I love burning the tapers. I think it's time to make some more - maybe this time I'll make a bunch for myself!

That's it for tonight. Nothing earth-shattering, but I thought some of you might get a kick out of the pictures. They had me waxing nostalgic, so I figured I might as well take you all down that road with me! Take care everyone, and sleep well!
